For an internetsavvy person like me it was already very late when I signed up to facebook in December 2009. The reason is quite simple: I didnt like Socialnetworks in general because of privacy issues and stuff but signed up at meinVZ/StudiVZ (the so called ‘german version of facebook‘ back in those days). Since I started living in the Philippines in 2008 I thought it would be a good way to keep in touch with friends and family from Germoney.
I didnt like meinVZ in any way – I was merely active there and because everyone said its a copy of facebook I didnt see a reason to sign up for facebook additionally. Well… facebook is very popular in the Philippines and people kept on asking if Im on there – so then in December 2009 I finally signed up and… was BLASTED. After daddling with different games on there (yah even FarmVille) it made:
It was clear as shit that there is money to be made here!
Usually I should now talk about what I did and how I did it and that you can do like that also blablabla and try to sell you an eBook for 25 bucks ^^ But hey – this is my personal Blog and Im not trying to sell you something here
So I created two Fanpages (which Im not going to post here because I still use them for promotion). One about the Philippines and a generic one. The generic one did pretty good, when you think about the fact that it was my first one, and is actually at 90k+ but has only around 10k impressions per post. The one about the Philippines is below 10k but above 5k and has only around 1k impressions per post left.
The low imp/post comes mostly from inactive accounts since both pages are old in terms of facebook and of course blocking the fanpage after a while when its not interesting for them or people just want to make a statement while joining a fanpage but dont want the updates in their newsfeed.
Shortly after signing up I got my new personal account disabled by facebook – I didnt do something sketchy, scammy or spammy! I just started a fanpage about ‘Feeding the poor’ where I posted a daily link to Organisations that give Donations when you finish some tasks for free (like freerice.com). They unbanned me after I send them an email – but the fanpage remained closed! I can just guess that someone thought of me trying to rip someone off or whatever which is clearly NOT true.
Anyway:
This made me aware of better not opening a fanpage on my own account anymore since you never know what crazy persons might report you for some crazy reason. The first Rule in facebook marketing:
NEVER do it with your personal account if you would mind losing it! I know that this is against their ToS – but I dont see any other chance than this to protect your personal account. Especially when you get bigger fanpages – there are always some (mostly americans) that get pissed off because of some shit.
So after Christmas/New Year I started to dig deeper into facebook (as mentioned I tried out different games etc) to get used to all the features.
…to be continued
